Professor James Hanson, climate scientist

Very informative article: Tax on Carbon.
This is the part I'm reflecting on:
'But governments are supposed to be operating for the benefit of citizens not for the benefit of powerful industries that have money.'
I can just see the faces of the executives who run these powerful industries as they open their mouths to say: 'But we are operating for the benefit of citizens more than anybody. That's why the goverments help us. You probably wouldn't have a job and a comfortable life without us.'
What would I say to this executive?
